Help for those needing to place a loved one in Long Term Care...

One of the big problems in placing a family member in long term care is to help them to make the transition. Some of the things that may make this easier follow:

Give maximum independence.. As much as possible, let your loved one be part of the decision-making process. This may not always be realistic, but an ounce of planning is worth a pound of heartache. If you see the possibility of long term care arising, have a chat with the one you love and let them have a say in the discussion. You may have to be very assertive and limit choices to what is reasonable, but it is still better to address the situation forthrightly.
