Dear ElderHope Reader,
I am sorry that these years have been so very hard for you. It sounds as though you have been trying to get through this time without much support . . . and that can be extremely difficult at times.
There are many different types of grief support groups throughout the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Click on our "North Texas" page listed under our Main Menu - Topics of Interest - located on the left side of our pages. When you scroll down you will see a listing of support groups, some of which may have outdated information about meeting times, etc., however, the links and phone numbers can connect you to more information. So many of these groups start up and close within six week periods, others remain open for years.
You may also want to contact a hospice near you to get information about more support groups in your community - click on Parkland's Palliative Care link for a listing of hospices in North Texas. Many hospices offer grief support groups as well as keep a current listing of other groups that are available in the area . . .
Lastly, you may want to ask about individual grief counseling for any specific areas that have been difficult for you. Sometimes that one-to-one counseling can offer more individualized support that can supplement the support offered through groups.
Please let us know if this helps or if you want more information. We will try to help in any way we can.
With warm regards - Barb and Mike
